Master's Entry Advanced Generalist Nursing

Description

The Master’s Entry Advanced Generalist Nursing (MEAGN) program provides students who have earned a bachelor’s degree the opportunity to earn a Master of Science in Nursing degree and be eligible for the licensure as a registered nurse.  This full-time program is designed to prepare the advanced generalist nurse who can address contemporary issues at entry-level practice in an evolving health care environment. Innovative combinations of prelicensure content and master’s level courses, along with integrated clinical experiences are features of this comprehensive program.

The MEAGN program prepares the nurse to function at the point of patient care to recognize, intervene, and evaluate care practices and processes.  Beyond a bachelor’s prepared entry level nurse, this professional contributes to health care as a catalyst for improvement, role model for critical thinking, holistic provider of care, and expert patient advocate.  The advanced generalist nurse becomes a vital member of the health care team, poised to enhance the safety and quality of care that improves patient outcomes.

Upon successfully completing the MEAGN program and passing NCLEX, graduates are automatically eligible to complete course work and qualify for certification as a Clinical Nurse Leader from the AACN Commission on Nurse Certification.  Graduates also qualify to apply directly to certificate or doctoral programs in advanced nurse practice.  The graduate who wishes to pursue advanced nursing practice will have preferred admission status into the McAuley School of Nursing’s existing graduate programs, including Clinical Nurse Specialist, Family Nurse Practitioner, and Health Systems Administration.

The MEAGN program requires completion of 55 credits of coursework to be completed over five consecutive 15-week semesters.  All courses are required and include prelicensure nursing and graduate level core courses consisting of a combination of didactic, lab, and clinical practicum components. In accordance with graduate nursing program standards, students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above and grades of B- or better in all courses for continued progression. Students will be subject to policies outlined in the Graduate Nursing Handbook when not meeting standards for academic progression, which may include academic probation, repeating a single course, or dismissal from that program.
