Teaching of Mathematics (MATM)
Description
The Master of Arts in the Teaching of Mathematics (MATM) degree enhances current and prospective teachers' mathematical knowledge while increasing their understanding of the current state of mathematics education research. It is now a completely online program, serving both Michigan teachers as well as teachers in other regions. Admission Requirements
Students must either have previously earned a teaching certificate or be in the process of earning one, having satisfied the entrance requirements for enrollment in a certification program in the College of Liberal Arts and Education. In particular, for Michigan teachers, a passing score on the Professional Readiness Exam (PRE - formerly, Michigan Basic Skills Test) is required – equivalent performances from other states are also acceptable. Students must also have a bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA, having attained mastery of college mathematics up to and including a year of Calculus, listed as MTH 1410 and MTH 1420 in the 91福利社 undergraduate catalog.
Students meeting some but not all of the requirements may be admitted provisionally, in which case they are expected to make up their deficiencies while under supervision of their advisor prior to beginning graduate work. Courses taken to satisfy admission requirements may be taken for graduate credit, but do not count toward completion of the degree. Upon completion of these courses, a formal application to the program can be made to the College of Engineering and Science.
